Denver Metro APWU Retiree’s Chapter Meeting Minutes
November 9, 2013
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Scott Morrow at 9 am. 14 retirees were present. Chairman Morrow reported that the Constitution Committee comprising Ron Gorman, Paul Mendrick and Scott Morrow met and are proposing a Constitution. Scott distributed the proposed constitution to the members. Amendments were offered:
Pg. 2 – Article 5 Section 3 – Change Nov. 30th to Dec. 15th – adopted unanimously
Pg. 3 – Article 6 Section 3 D – add – or designee – adopted unanimously
Pg. 4 – Article 6 Section 4 B – add – or designee – adopted unanimously
The vote on adoption of the DMAL APWU Retiree’s Chapter Constitution as amended was adopted unanimously.
Chairman Morrow appointed Ron Gorman as Editor. Approved without objection.
Chairman Morrow entertained nominations for Officers: Nominations are:
President – Paul J. Mendrick
Secretary-Treasurer – Scott Morrow
Any member may nominate or self nominate in writing by December 15, 2013. Motion was adopted unanimously.
Scott announced the election of officers will be held at our next Retiree Chapter meeting on January 11, 2014 at 10 am.
Chairman Morrow gave detailed report Legislative Report stressing the importance of getting involved with our Congressional Representatives on issues important to retiree’s. Scott gave several examples such is the Postmaster General’s interest to move Postal employee’s and retiree’s health benefits from FEHBA to the bargaining table. Another piece of legislation that was discussed is the Federal windfall act that prevents Postal/Government retiree’s on Civil Service from receiving full social security benefits.
Chairman Morrow led discussion regarding the direction the Retiree’s Chapter should take. Many suggestions were discussed including legislation, education and social. The members attending showed interest in having speakers such as: Social Security, Medicare and Health related.
It should be noted that while the Denver Metro APWU Retiree’s Chapter is independent and autonomous of the DMAL APWU it is in all of our interest to work for the common goals of the local, national APWU and the national Retiree’s organization.
