ATTENTION APWU MEMBERS!
YOU COULD WIN UP TO $2,004!
By Dennis Enderson, President

Announcing: The 2004 National APWU Officer Election

GET OUT THE VOTE DRIVE!

The Denver Metro Area Local, APWU wants all of our members to participate in the 2004 National APWU Officer Election. One lucky member of our local who votes in this officer election will be awarded a grand prize of up to $2004! There will also be a second prize of $250 and 25 third prizes of $25 each! Here’s how the contest will work:

  • Ballots will be mailed to all members beginning the week of September 13, 2004.
  • Completed ballots must be returned to the national office no later than Tuesday, October 5, 2004.
  • Every Denver Metro APWU member who votes in this election is eligible to win any one of the cash prizes to be awarded, including the GRAND PRIZE of up to $2004!
  • To be eligible to win a prize, all you must do is fill out your ballot and mail it back.
  • Winners of all prizes will be selected via a random drawing conducted by the national APWU election committee from among all ballots returned by members of our local.
  • The Grand Prize will be determined by the total turnout generated by the Denver Metro Area Local, APWU, up to a maximum of $2004! For example, if 1,500 members of our local cast ballots, then the Grand Prize will be $1,500.
  • The Second Prize will be a cash award of $250.
  • 25 Third Prizes of $25 will be awarded to 25 different members who vote.

As we all know, the Postal Service has been undergoing massive structural changes over the past several years and there is no reason to believe that this pattern will change in the future. It is important that we elect a group of officers who will demonstrate the vision and leadership necessary to protect our jobs to the maximum possible extent. Your local leadership wants the voices of our members to be heard, loudly and clearly, by the leadership of our union. The best way to do this is to ensure that our members VOTE in the 2004 APWU Officer Election!

At the August 2004 Special General Membership Meeting, the members endorsed a number of candidates for national APWU office. We hope you will take the time to learn about the various officer candidates, and make wise decisions. We also hope you will take the time to learn about the candidates endorsed by the membership and support these endorsements. If we speak with a united voice, we will send a loud and clear message that our local deserves the respect and attention of our national officers!

Voting in the national APWU Officer Election couldn’t be easier. In mid-September, you will receive a ballot kit containing a ballot, an unmarked envelope to ensure the secrecy of your selections, and a business reply envelope with which to return your completed ballot. All you will need to provide is a pencil! As always, your privacy will be completely protected, and no one will be able to determine how you voted!

Every member of our local who votes in this election will have an equal opportunity to win any of the 27 prizes to be awarded. The only way to win a prize is to complete and return your ballot before the October 5, 2004 deadline. The Grand Prize will grow $1 for every member of our local who votes, up to a maximum of $2004. Therefore, you should talk to every one of your friends, family members and/or co-workers who are eligible to vote in the election and remind them to return their ballots! The more members who vote, the larger the Grand Prize will be! Don’t be left out! Make your voice heard in the national APWU election!

APWU Members to Receive Largest COLA Hike in 23 Years
by William Burrus, National APWU President

Although the Consumer Price Index dipped slightly in July, the Cost-of-Living Adjustment taking effect next month will give APWU represented employees an annual raise of $624. “The paycheck that members receive Sept. 24th will reflect the largest single COLA increase since May 1981,” said President William Burrus. “It’s just one example of the value of a union contract. Members also will receive a 1.3 percent wage increase in late November, giving them raises that total $1,184 to $1292 over the next three months.” The latest adjustment – the sixth COLA period under the National Agreement – is based on the six month measuring period that ended July 31st. The four most recent COLA increases took effect March 6, 2004 ($208), September 6, 2003 ($291), March 8, 2003 ($250), and September 7, 2003 ($312).
